It's So Nice To Meet You
My daughter was an early talker and a late walker. She didn't move around much in the early days, but she could talk up a storm. And one of the first things she learned how to say to people was, "It's nice to meet you." I don't know who taught her this, but somehow she also learned to accompany this sophisticated phrase with a warm, hearty handshake.
It's just about the cutest thing I've ever seen, and it wins her instant friends wherever she goes. But perhaps the sweetest thing of all about this trait is that it's not just reserved for new acquaintances. At random times throughout the week, in the middle of coloring Minnie Mouse or eating her toast, she'll turn her big blue eyes to me and say, "It's so nice to meet you, Mama."
She says it with all the open innocence and sweetness that only a child can muster. And each time, I meet her gaze and respond with all sincerity, "It's so nice to meet you too, baby girl."
It's hard for me to articulate the depth of meaning I feel in this exchange, but it takes me back to that first moment I laid eyes on her precious little face. That moment I felt our love for the very first time. Because I looked down at that brand new life and said those same very words, "Hello baby girl, it's so very nice to meet you. Welcome to the world."
I don't know what it is about crisp mornings and twinkle lights and copious amounts of carbohydrates, but this time of year always gets to me. I walk around feeling this constant, unrelenting surge of gratitude inside me. And like my daughter, I want to reach out my hand to every beautiful person in my life and say with that same sincerity, "It's so very nice to meet you. I'm so glad you're in my life. In this epic, cosmic journey we're on, I'm so glad we get to spend some of these magical moments together."
I appreciate that my little girl takes the time to reach out to me and acknowledge our miraculous connection. I don't know if she can fully appreciate the magnitude and gift of her words, but I feel it, and I'm immeasurably grateful for it.
As we enter into this very sweet and precious time of year, I hope that your days are full of warm and tender gratitude, and that you are surrounded by people who honor you with positivity and grace. I want to reach out across the cyber space between us and shake your hand. And I want to tell you with all sincerity that it's so nice to meet you.
May God bless you and keep you on your journey today!
